I was just craving for some toast and strawberry jam for breakfast. But as I was approaching the kitchen I smelled something "fishy".
Mom cooked Mung Bean Soup or "ginisang munggo" in Tagalog. It is a Filipino dish made of mung beans, tomatoes, onions, fish sauce, smoked fish, fried pork rinds, chili leaves, leaves of bitter gourd and moringa leaves.
She said that the soup is best eaten with fried dried fish and so she asked our helper to fry some at the outside kitchen. So that explains the strong fishy smell :)
I have to admit, I am not a fan of dried fish, whether fried or cooked with honey. It's just not for me. But Mom insisted that I try the soup with it...oh well...
Surprisingly, the fried dried fish is very crunchy and taste better when dipped in vinegar. It sort of complemented the savory taste of the soup.
Thanks Mommy! Burp!
